Is there a reason that balanced stance users pump tactics to 8 rather than 6?
It's 12/10/8 vs 12/11/6 ; 12/7/8/8 (with one 8 for tac) or 11/10/8/8 or 12/9/7/6 (more unused points)

So you lose an entire attribute worth of DF, for 2 armor.
Mo/W = 60 armor base
Disciple's = +15
Shield = +8 minimum
Spear/Sword = +5 to +7 depending on if it is of defense, warding, or shelter
Shield mod = +10 vs type
=98-100 depending on martial weapon mod
If 15/7 shield = +7 ; 13/5 = +5
so 103 to 107 Armor

That's a 39.8 Critical from a hammer with vamp, versus 37.4 or 45.7 vs 43 critical from vamp scythe. If you consider sundering it's 58.2 vs 55 from scythe crit. Since DF gives +3.2 HP, wouldn't pumping DF one more attribute be better? Even without conditions and the +10 vs typed, it's 78 armor vs 80.

+2 armor is 96.59% damage. So at best you lose 4-8 health more and lose 1 second on balanced stance (2 with weakness lowering the tactics to 5). It's actually less since you get 47.47% damage at 103 armor and 44.29% at 107 armor (3.18% difference).

I'm guessing 8 tactics is because it's the breakpoint for not losing duration on balanced stance due to weakness? Granted, it's armor for every hit, rather than 3.2 for every cast.

For stuff like bonetti's, the duration is not reduced from 5-6 and 7-8 but for disciplined stance it goes from 3 seconds to 2 when you lower to 7 tactics (it's 3 seconds from 5 to 7). If you get hit with weakness on shield stance then it is better with 6 tac since you don't lose duration.

For 12/7/8/8, if you get hit with weakness on guardian/Aura of stability, the 8 attribute guardian lasts 1 second longer than 7 attribute whereas the 9 and 8 attribute durations are the same.

I guess it's more like R6/14 in the case.

The point was, why not 5/13 shield with 12/11/6 rather than 12/10/8... You could push 13DF and 13Heal on Healing Burst, for example (13DF + 14 Heal if you run major) since 13DF is the breakpoint for +4 rather than +3 to DF heals.

I'm assuming the monk gets the heal every time you healing burst since you need to be more or less in earshot to heal, so +4HP from DF boost would be better than +2 armor, wouldn't it?

I run 9 tactics because I'm poor and have req 9 shields and also because I run woh not healing burst.

I believe it is basically the break point for most defensive tactics skills, and in some cases a one skill point buffer. eg, Disciplined Stance is 2 seconds duration at 7 skill points, and 3 seconds duration at 8 skill points.

Also, 8/16 offers you maximum armour possible at a reduced skill point cost. Often you need all the armour you can get when you have dual ele spamming at you.
